WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Georgetown, 71-65, on March 1 in Washington, D.C. Freshman Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) led the Friar effort with a game-high 23 points and added five rebounds, seven assists and two steals. Junior Alexis Harris (Detroit, Mich.) recorded her 12th double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds, while junior Tori Rule (Minneapolis, Minn.) chipped in 15 points.

Karin Robinson (Jamaica, N.Y.) hit a three-pointer with 9:59 remaining in the first half to give the Friars an 18-15 lead. Georgetown then went on an 11-0 run to take its largest lead of the half (26-18) with 5:24 left on the clock. The Friars out-scored the Hoyas 9-4 in the final five minutes of the half to get within three at the break (30-27). Beal was responsible for four of the Friars' nine points, including a three-point bucket as time expired.

The Hoyas opened the second half on a 12-2 run to take a 42-29 lead with 13:59 remaining in the game. Providence answered with an 8-3 run to get within 45-37 at 11:14. Georgetown took its largest lead at the 5:45 mark (60-45) as Katie McCormick knocked down a three pointer from the right side. Providence cut the deficit to seven (65-58) with a minute remaining as Beal notched her fourth three-pointer of the game, and third of the second half. Rule got Providence with in six (69-63) with 13-seconds left, but it remained a six-point deficit as time expired.

Andrea White led Georgetown with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Natalie Butler contributed 10 points and 20 boards.

The Friars conclude their regular-season schedule on Monday, March 3 against St. John's. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 p.m. The BIG EAST Women's Basketball Championship will be played March 8-11 in Chicago, Ill.
