Women's Basketball Falls To Brown, 57-47

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball fell to cross-city rival Brown, 57-47, on Nov. 17 at the Pizzitola Sports Center in Providence, R.I. The Friars fall to 0-2 to start the season, while Brown improves to 2-0.
Providence led 18-14 with 7:36 remaining in the second quarter. Brown finished the half with a 10-1 scoring advantage to take a 24-19 lead at the break. Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) led Providence with five points in the first half, while Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) added four points and a team-high five rebounds. Jordin Alexander netted nine points for Brown in the opening half of play.
Brown led by 13 (40-27) with 1:45 remaining in the third quarter, but the Friars responded with an 18-8 scoring run to get within three (48-45) with 3:34 left in the fourth quarter. Freshman Jovana `Yoyo' Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) recorded all of her 11 points during the run, including eight-straight points to close the third quarter.
However, Brown was able to hold off the Friars with a 9-2 scoring advantage in the final 3:34 of the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Miller finished the night with a team-high 14 points and added seven rebounds. In addition to her 11 points, Nogic hauled in a team-high eight rebounds and dished two assists.
Alexander led Brown with 15 points and five assists, while Erika Steeves came off the bench to post a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
The Friars return to action on Friday, Nov. 20 against ACC-foe Virginia Tech. The game will be played at Cassell Coliseum in Blacksburg, Va. Tip-off is slated for 5:00 p.m.
