ITHACA, N.Y. - The Providence College men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished up competition at the BIG EAST Championships at Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y. on Saturday, Feb. 21.
On the women's side, junior Devon Cameron (Bradford, Mass.) and sophomore Jordan Jacobson (Westfield, Mass.) competed in the 1650y freestyle, finishing 16th (18:23.02) and 17th (18:35.20) respectively. In the finals for the 200y backstroke, sophomore Helen Smith (Belmont, Mass.) took 11th (2:05.36), while senior Kelly O'Neill (Rye, N.Y.) earned 16th (2:10.47). Sophomore Kelly Quinn (Garden City, N.Y.) swam in the finals of the 100y freestyle, taking 16th place (53.85). In the 200y breaststroke, sophomore Katherine Ainley (Rehoboth, Mass.) took 15th place (2:30.84), while senior Leia Federiconi (Williamsville, N.Y.) followed right on her heels to take 16th (2:30.84). Smith completed the 200y butterfly event in 2:08.19 taking 11th place, while senior Meredith Pramer (Norwalk, Conn.) finished in 2:16.70 to earn 16th. Freshman Kendall Jerzyk (Madison, Conn.) finished the one meter diving event in third place with 449.95 points, the highest place ever attained by a Friar diver at the BIG EAST Championships.
For the men, sophomore Zachary Begnaud (Natchitoches, La.) completed the 1650y freestyle in 16:58.86, placing 15th. Four men made it into the finals of the 200y backstroke. Senior John Fatigati (Mahwah, N.J.) turned in the top time for the Friars, finishing 10th (1:54.22), while freshman Austin McGowan (Mansfield, Mass.) finished 14th (1:59.70). Sophomore William Fierro Joyce (Pound Ridge, N.Y.) earned 15th place (1:59.85) and sophomore Brian Bodick (New Canaan, Conn.) took 16th (2:09.05). Senior Justin Tse (Framingham, Mass.) placed 16th in the finals of the 100y freestyle (48.50). Freshman Connor Fabian (LaGrange Park, Ill.) took 8th place (2:07.83) in the finals of the 200y breaststroke, while sophomore Kurt Grunder (Binghamton N.Y.) took 14th place (2:11.94) in the same event. Freshman Christopher Asgian (Loveland, Ohio) earned 10th place in the finals of the 200y butterfly, reaching the wall at 1:57.38.
