OMAHA, NEB. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Creighton, 72-48, on Jan. 17 at D.J. Sokol Arena in Omaha, Neb. Junior guard Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) led the Friars with 11 points, five assists and three steals. Lauren Works led all scorers for Creighton with 19 points and added four assists.

Providence trailed by just four (19-15) with 8:36 remaining in the second quarter before Creighton away on an 18-4 scoring run to take a 37-19 advantage. The Friars closed the half on a 5-0 spurt to make it a 13-point margin at the half (37-24). Works led Creighton in the first half with 14 points on 5-6 shooting from the field, including 4-5 from three-point territory. Beal paced the Friars with 10 points on 5-7 shooting.

The Friars cut the deficit to nine (37-28) with back to back buckets from Jovana `Yoyo' Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) and Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) just 1:21 into the third quarter. Creighton held a 15-5 scoring advantage the remainder of the quarter to take a 54-33 lead. The Bluejays maintained a 20+ point margin the rest of the way.

Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) and Brianna Frias (Worcester, Mass.) each finished the game with eight points for Providence.

Myah Mellman and Tessa Leytem each joined Works in double figures with 14 points. Jade Owens contributed seven assists and three steals.

The Friars return to action on Friday, Jan. 22 against Marquette at 8:00 p.m. (ET). The game will be played in Milwaukee, Wis. and will be televised live on FS1 (FOX Sports 1). The Friars remain on the road for a match-up against DePaul on Sunday, Jan. 24 in Chicago, Ill. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 3:00 p.m. (ET) and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports GO.
