Georgetown Defeats Women's Basketball, 82-51

The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Georgetown, 82-51, on Jan. 29 at Alumni Hall in Providence, R.I.
Georgetown took a 52-34 lead into the locker room at halftime with an impressive showing from the field. The Hoyas shot 62-percent overall (23-37), including a 5-of-7 (0.714) performance from beyond the three-point arc. Providence shot 44.8-percent in the opening half (13-29), including 5-10 from three-point range (0.500). The Hoyas held a 14-5 edge in the scoring column in points off of turnovers, and held a decisive advantage in the paint (32-4).
Sophomore Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) led Providence with 10 points in the first half, marking a season-high. Evi Iiskola (Espoo, Finland) and Clara Che (Valencia, Spain) each chipped in seven points.
Dorothy Adomako registered 20 first-half points for the Hoyas on 9-12 shooting, including 2-2 from behind the arc. Dionna White added nine points.
The Hoyas held the Friars scoreless in the final 5:33 of the third quarter to take a 70-45 lead into the fourth quarter.
Georgetown opened the final stanza with a pair of free throws followed by an Erica Meyer (Wilton, Conn.) lay-in at the 9:03 mark. Providence went cold for the next 8:19 until Rachel Aho (Holden, Mass.) found the bottom of the net to make the score 82-49.
Botteghi finished the night with a team-best 10 points, and Iiskola added nine points. Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) dished a game-high five assists and hauled in a team-best five rebounds.
Providence College returns to action on Sunday, Jan. 31 against BIG EAST foe Villanova at 1:00 p.m. The game is scheduled to be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports GO.
