Xavier Defeats Women's Hoops, 72-47

CINCINNATI, OHIO - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to BIG EAST foe Xavier, 72-47, on Feb. 5 at the Cintas Center in Cincinnati, Ohio. Sophomore Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) hit double figures in the scoring column for the second time in the last three games, with a team-high 12 points. She also added a career-high eight rebounds.
Xavier took a 38-21 lead into the locker room at halftime after outscoring Providence 17-7 in the second quarter. The Musketeers got some separation with a 12-0 run in the final 6:26 of the half.
Xavier earned the wire-to-wire victory with a 34-26 scoring edge in the second half.
For the game, Xavier held a 21-9 scoring advantage in points off of turnovers, and also dominated the paint, 46-18.
Providence shot just 29.3-percent from the field (17-58), while the Musketeers converted 28-59 of their attempts from the floor at a 47.5-percent clip.
Clara Che (Valencia, Spain) joined Botteghi in double figures with 10 points, and fellow freshman Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) followed with seven points. Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) recorded team highs in assists (five) and steals (four).
The Friars return to action on Sunday, Feb. 7 against BIG EAST foe Butler at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. The game will tip-off at 2:00 p.m and will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN).
