PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to Georgetown in BIG EAST Conference play, 71-39, on Jan. 10 in Providence, R.I. The Friars dropped to 9-8 overall (1-5 BIG EAST), while Georgetown improved to 9-6 (1-4 BIG EAST).

The Friars led 8-6 with 6:13 on the clock in the first quarter before Georgetown used an 11-0 run to take a 17-8 advantage with 2:17 remaining.

Trailing 18-11 to start the second quarter, the Yoyo Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal) and Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) hit back-to-back buckets to get Providence within three 18-15. The Hoyas answered with a 9-0 run to take a 12-point lead with 4:05 on the clock. Jolin halted the run with a three-point bucket and Aliyah Miller (Southaven, Miss.) followed with a steal and a lay-up on the other end to get within seven (27-20). The Hoyas carried a 32-23 edge into halftime.

The Hoyas opened the third quarter with an 8-0 run to take a 40-23 lead and forced a Providence timeout with 7:23 on the clock. Georgetown went on to outscore the Friars 27-9 in the quarter overall and took a 52-39 lead into the final frame.

The Friars' struggles continued in the fourth quarter, as Georgetown closed out the game with a 12-7 scoring advantage.

Providence shot a season-low 29.2-percent from the field in the game (14-48), including 4-18 from the three-point arc. Georgetown converted 45.2-percent from the field (28-62) and held a 41-30 advantage on the boards. The Hoyas also took advantage of 19 Providence College miscues, and outscored PC 16-8 in points off of turnovers.

Jolin finished the night with a team-high 15 points. Junior Allegra Botteghi (Bologna, Italy) added seven points and a team-high seven rebounds.

Faith Woodard led four Hoyas in double figures with 22 points. Dorothy Adomako chipped in a double-double effort with 17 points and 12 boards. Dionna White (14 points) and DiDi Burton (10 points) rounded out the double-digit scorers.

The Friars return to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 against Creighton. The game will be played at Alumni Hall/Mullaney Gymnasium in Providence, R.I. and is scheduled to tip-off at Noon. A live broadcast will be available on the BIG EAST Digital Network (BEDN) via FOX Sports Go.
