PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team fell to St. John's, 71-47 in BIG EAST Conference play on Feb. 17 in Providence, R.I. The Friars were led offensively by Yoyo Nogic (Lisbon, Portugal), who tallied a game-high 17 points. Aaliyah Lewis matched Nogic's effort with 17 points for St. John's.

The Friars struggled from the floor in the first half, shooting just 28-percent (5-18), while St. John's hit 54-percent of their attempts (14-26). Nogic hit a jumper with 6:29 left on the clock in the first quarter before Providence went silent from the field. The Friars' only points the remainder of the quarter came via a pair of Sarah Beal (Matthews, N.C.) free throws with 1:33 on the clock.

Maddie Jolin (Rehoboth, Mass.) ended the field-goal drought with a lay-up at the 8:22 mark of the second quarter to get Providence within 14 (22-8). St. John's answered with a 10-3 run to take a 21-point advantage (32-11) with 4:00 minutes remaining in the half. The Red Storm took a 35-15 lead the break.

Providence cut the lead to 16 (39-23) with 6:47 remaining in the third quarter, but it was as close as the Friars would get the rest of the way. The Johnnies extended their lead to as many as 25 (52-27) and maintained control for the win.

The Friars finished the game 18-48 from the field (37.5-percent), while the Red Storm connected on 27-52 attempts (51.9-percent).

Providence returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 19 against Seton Hall. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 p.m. and the program will honor its senior class in a pre-game ceremony at 12:45 p.m.
