New Providence, N.J. -

The Providence College Swimming and Diving Program travelled to New Providence, N.J. on Saturday, Feb. 3rd, to compete in a tri-meet with Seton Hall and Georgetown. The Pirates and the Hoyas came out on top of this BIG EAST showdown. On the men's side, the Friars lost 136-93 to Georgetown, and 238-47 to Seton Hall. The women dropped 217.50-80.50 against Georgetown, and 214.50-82.50 against Seton Hall.

The Friars big highlight of the meet came in the Women's 500-yard Freestyle. While they were unable to crack the number one spot, Providence took second, third, fourth, and fifth. Senior Katherine Fallon led the charge as she finished in second-place with a time of 5:15.88. Bridget Reilly was next, with a time of 5:21.86, and freshman Molly Kavanaugh was right behind (5:22.55). Although the Friars had already maxed their score for the event, freshman Abbie Bigham capped off the Friars brigade, touching the wall at 5:23.37.

Freshman Sebastian Melendez added consistent points for the Men, starting with a third-place finish in the 200-yard Freestyle (1:45.06). Melendez went on to add two fourth-place finishes in the 100-yard Freestyle (48.81), and the 100-yard Butterfly (53.34). He ended the day by teaming up with Liam Straker, Joshua Southren, and Patrick Brannigan to earn a fourth-place finish in the 400-yard Freestyle Relay (3:18.07).

This concludes the Providence College Swimming and Diving 2017-18 regular season. Nearly the entire program has qualified to advance to the BIG EAST Championship in Geneva, Ohio later this month (Feb. 21-24).
