Women's Hockey Skates To 2-2 Tie With UConn

STORRS, Conn. – The Providence College women's hockey team skated to a 2-2 tie against the University of Connecticut on Saturday, Feb. 1 in Storrs, Conn. Providence now holds a 15-10-3 overall record and 12-8-1 mark in conference play. The Friars remain in fourth place in the Hockey East with 25 points.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- The Huskies struck first in the opening period with 4:50 remaining. Jessie Aney played the puck back to the right wing off the face-off, Emily Reid put a wrist shot on net that bounced past Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany).
- UConn held a 6-5 advantage in shots at the end of the first period.
- Whitney Dove (Port Moody, British Columbia) scored the equalizer 5:35 into the second period. The puck bounced out to Dove at the point before she ripped a slap shot to the top right shelf for her seventh goal of the season and 23rd point.
- The Friars took a 2-1 just five minutes later on Bailey Burton's (Bloomington, Minn.) fifth goal of the season. Providence won a face-off in the defensive zone before Meaghan Rickard (Coventry, R.I.) brought the puck of the left side of the ice, Rickard dished the puck to Burton in front of the net for a re-direct to the far post. The assist marked Rickard's eighth of the season.
- Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) was called for the first penalty of the game with just under two minutes left in the period. The Huskies converted to level the game at 2-2 after a wrist shot from the point found the back of the net through traffic.  
- A goal for each side was waved off in the final period before heading to the overtime period. UConn's goal was called back as the puck was kicked in off the skate before Providence's was called back for a high stick.
- The Friars outshot the Huskies in regulation, 26-22.
- Neither side could find the game-winner in the overtime frame.
- The tie marked Providence's first in conference play after previously holding a 2-1-2 record in overtime games.
