Women’s Hockey Scores Two Unanswered Goals To Defeat Holy Cross, 3-1

WORCESTER, Mass. – The Providence College women's hockey defeated the College of the Holy Cross, 3-1, in the Hart Center on Friday, Feb. 21. Whitney Dove (Port Moody, British Columbia) scored the game-winning goal with 7:27 left in the second period. The Friars will look to clinch home ice in the Hockey East Quarterfinals with a win tomorrow afternoon on Senior Day.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
- Freshman Isabelle Hardy (Oakville, Ontario) broke the scoreless game midway through the first period on her fifth goal of the season. Hardy received a pass just in front of the blue line from Neve Van Pelt (Mitchell, Ontario) before sneaking a shot five-hole under the goaltender. The assist marked Van Pelt's fifth of the season while Meaghan Rickard (Coventry, R.I.) earned her tenth assist with the secondary helper.
- The Friars failed to convert on three power play opportunities in the period but held a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
- Holy Cross leveled the game at 1-1 just 1:42 into the second period. Kailey Langefels slid a pass across the crease that Carly Beniek finished on the far post.
- Providence answered with 7:27 on the clock in the middle frame on Whitney Dove's (Port Moody, British Columbia) eighth goal of the season. Dove corralled a Holy Cross clear in the neutral zone before bringing the puck up the right boards and firing a wrist shot over the goaltender's left shoulder.
- Shots were in favor of Providence, 21-10, at the conclusion of the second period.
- Rickard added an insurance goal with her seventh goal of the season and second point of the game. Rickard received a pass on the right boards before finishing a wrist shot blocker side. Ciara Barone (North Tonawanda, N.Y.) was credited with her third assist of the season while Lauren DeBlois (Lewiston, Maine) stayed hot with her fourth point in her last four games with the secondary assist.
- Sandra Abstreiter (Fresing, Germany) earned her ninth win of the season while recording 14 saves between the pipes.
