BURLINGTON, Vt. – The no. seven seeded Providence College women's hockey team was defeated by the no. two seeded University of Vermont, 1-4, in the Quarterfinal Round of the Hockey East Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Gutterson Fieldhouse. The Friars conclude the 2021-22 season at 16-14-6 overall.

GAME FLOW & NOTES
-The Catamounts struck first with a goal from Theresa Schafzahl 1:58 into the opening period.
-Vermont increased their lead, 2-0, with a goal from Antonia Matzka at 16:06. The Friars went into the first intermission trailing by two but held an edge in shots, 11-7.
-Vermont struck again early in the second, 3-0, on the power play after
Lily Hendrikson (Edina, Minn.) was whistled off for a hook at 4:18.
-Hendrikson got the Friars on the board, 1-3, in the final 5:40 of regulation on the power play. She was assisted by
Hayley Lunny (Bedford, N.Y.) and
Sara Hjalmarsson (Bankeryd, Sweden).
-After pulling
Sandra Abstreiter (Freising, Germany) from net at 2:54, the Friars made an effort to cut the two-point deficit with an extra-man but Vermont scored on the empty net, 4-1, with 1:19 remaining.
-The Friars outshot the Catamounts, 32-27 through 60 minutes.
-Abstreiter finished the day with 23 saves, tallying 12 in the second period alone.
