AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 20 Providence College men's hockey team landed 47 shots on goal but came up short in a 4-2 Hockey East Quarterfinal loss at No. 12 UMass on Saturday night (March 12) at the Mullins Center. The Friars finish the 2021-22 campaign at 22-14-2 overall.

- UMass found the back of the net twice during the opening period, grabbing a 2-0 lead despite the Friars holding a 16-6 shot advantage. Josh Lopina scored both goals for the Minutemen, with the second coming on the power play.

Riley Duran got the Friars on the board, 3-1, with 5:59 remaining in period two. Duran was assisted by
Max Crozier and
Cody Monds on his 10th goal of the season after re-directing a shot from Crozier from the point.
- Providence earned back-to-back power play opportunities in the third period but couldn't convert despite multiple point-blank chances.
