PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The NCAA released the 2020-21 Academic Progress Rate report on Tuesday (June 14). Four Providence College programs posted perfect multi-year rates of 1,000. Men's cross country, men's and women's swimming and diving and women's tennis each recorded a perfect APR.
Â
Women's swimming and diving has held an APR of 1,000 for eight-consecutive years and women's tennis has held a perfect score for seven-consecutive years.
Â
Other Providence College teams' APR scores were: women's basketball (995), men's lacrosse (994), women's volleyball (994), women's soccer (993), field hockey (992), men's track (991), women's track (990), women's ice hockey (989), men's basketball (984), men's soccer (984), women's cross country (982), softball (979), and men's ice hockey (973).
Â
The minimum APR academic standard for each team is 930. Typically, teams that scored below the benchmark would have to face penalties that encourage an emphasis and prioritization on academics. However, due to the current penalty suspension in place, teams will not be subjected to penalties this year. Last year, APR data was not released publicly, and penalties were not assessed.
Â
The APR measures eligibility, graduation and retention each term and provides a clear picture of the academic performance for each team in each sport. The most recent APRs are multi-year rates based on scores from the 2017-18, 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21 academic years.
