Ally DeCoste Propels Friars To 4-1 Win At Georgetown

DeCoste tallied a season-high five points on two goals and one assist.

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The Providence College field hockey team defeated Georgetown, 4-1, in BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, Oct. 25 at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md. The Friars improved to 7-8 overall and evened their league record at 3-3. Georgetown dropped to 3-11 overall (1-5 BIG EAST).
 
GAME FLOW:
• The Friars took a 2-0 lead inside the first 10 minutes of play and graduate student Ally DeCoste was credited with both goals.
• She scored her first during a penalty corner at the 6:49 mark after collecting a rebound on Cami Crook's initial shot.
• She struck again at 9:33 as she eliminated the goalkeeper and tallied her team-best eighth goal of the season. Macie Pennisi was awarded the assist and she fed DeCoste with a ball as she entered the top of the circle, creating the transition opportunity.
• The Friars carried their 2-0 lead into halftime. 
• In the first half, Providence led in shots (7-0), shots on goal (4-0) and penalty corners (2-1).
Bo Martina put Providence ahead 3-0 at the 42:56 mark with her fifth tally of the season, assisted by Hannah McKenney.
• Georgetown outshot the Friars 5-4 in the third quarter, but Providence held the advantage in shots on goal, 4-3.
Hannah McKenney gave Providence a 4-0 advantage at 53:04 as she redirected a feed in from DeCoste at the left post.
• Georgetown ended the Friars' shut-out bid as Colleen Maloney scored off a rebound at 58:34 to make the score 4-1.
 
NOTES / HIGHLIGHTS: 
• DeCoste registered her second multi-goal game of the season and fourth of her career and finished the day with a season-high five points (2g / 1a).
• DeCoste also eclipsed the 50-point mark in her Friar career. Including her two goals and one assist vs. Georgetown, DeCoste owns 52 career points on 22 goals and eight assists.
• In four games vs. Georgetown during her career, DeCoste has tallied 14 points on six goals and two assists.
• Martina has scored in back-to-back games for the first time in her career. She tallied the game-winning goal vs. No. 5 Connecticut in double-overtime on Oct. 18 and added a goal against the Hoyas today.
• McKenney recorded her third goal of the season, which marks a career high for the senior.
Asia Porter collected three saves to earn the victory in goal for Providence.

• The Friars will return to Rhode Island to face cross-city rival Brown on Sunday, Oct. 27 at 3:00 p.m. The match will be played at Goldberger Family Field on the Brown University campus. A live stream will be available on ESPN+.
