VILLANOVA, Pa.- The Providence College volleyball team was defeated by Villanova University in three sets (3-0) on Saturday, Nov. 15 in Villanova, Pa. The Friars finished the season 12-17 (3-13 BIG EAST) while Villanova improved to 20-7 (11-5 BIG EAST).
FIRST SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova earned a 25-17 victory in the first set.
- Villanova came out quick with a 7-2 lead and forced a Providence timeout.
- Redshirt freshman Audrey Kocon (Shoreview, Minn.) had a kill to narrow the Wildcat's lead to 14-12.
- Villanova extended their lead to 20-15, prompting a second Providence timeout.
- The Wildcats outscored the Friars 5-2 to take the first set (25-17).
SECOND SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova won the second set, 25-19.
- Villanova jumped out to an 11-8 lead, forcing a Providence timeout.
- A kill by junior Macy Taylor (Rowelett, Texas) tied the set, 17-17.
- The Wildcats scored back-to-back points and the Friars took a second timeout (19-17).
- Villanova maintained its lead and won the set, 25-19.
- Kocon led the Friars with seven kills through set two.
THIRD SET HIGHLIGHTS: Villanova won the set, and the match 3-0.
- The two teams played evenly, tying the set 10-10.
- Villanova went on a 3-0 run, forcing a Providence timeout (13-10).
- The Wildcats extended their lead to 18-13.
- Sophomore Sophia Adkins (Cincinnati, Ohio) had an ace to get within one, prompting a Villanova timeout (20-19).
- The Wildcats went on a 5-1 run to win the set, 25-20, and the match, 3-0.
MATCH NOTES:
- Adkins tallied nine kills.
- Kocon recorded a double-double, with 11 assists and 10 digs.
- Redshirt senior Hadley Pride (Nashville, Tenn.) led the defense with 18 digs.
- The Friars notched 32 kills, five aces and 47 digs.
