PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Providence College Athletics hosted the sixth annual Joe Canavan '65 Memorial Tournament, presented by Finetco, at Lake of Isles in North Stonington, Conn. The proceeds from this event will directly support the Providence College Canavan Sports Medicine Fund.
Participants enjoyed a full day of golf, beginning with breakfast and continuing with 18-scenic holes of golf and beverages on the course and lunch, generously sponsored by Rhode Island Medical Imaging. The outing concluded with a celebratory dinner buffet and a speaking program featuring Athletic Director Steve Napolillo, former Senior Associate AD of Health and Wellness John Rock and Jeff Canavan, representing the Canavan Family. Together, they reflected on the powerful impact of the Canavan Sports Medicine Fund and honored the enduring legacy of Joe Canavan '65.
"The Joe Canavan '65 Memorial Tournament is the ninth and final stop on our annual golf series and it's always one of the most meaningful," Athletic Director Steve Napolillo said. "This event reminds us why we do what we do: to support the health, wellness and success of our student-athletes. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Joe's wife, MaryBeth and the entire Canavan Family, the Finnegan Family, Finetco, Rhode Island Medical Imaging and Lake of Isles for their incredible support in making this day so special."
Contributions to the Providence College Sports Medicine Fund—especially through the Joe Canavan '65 Memorial Tournament—have directly supported recent upgrades to the Canavan Sports Medicine Center and the Innovation Lab, enhancing recovery and performance resources for student-athletes. Highlights include renovated hot and cold plunge pools, improvements to the Hydrotherapy Center, the addition of a new Red Light Therapy Room and a second Alter-G anti-gravity treadmill to support advanced rehabilitation.
