Last Time Out vs. UMass Lowell
-Â The No. 8/9 Providence College men's ice hockey team rallied to a win over No. 13/13 UMass Lowell, beating the River Hawks 4-2 on Saturday, Feb. 22.
- The Friars broke onto the scoreboard late in the first period, as
Nick Poisson beat Welsch blocker-side after taking a feed from
Chase Yoder into the Lowell zone, putting Providence ahead 1-0.
- UMass Lowell found the equalizer early in the second frame, when forward Scout Truman beat Svedebäck through five-hole on a penalty shot opportunity, making it 1-1.
- With 1:51 to go in the period, Lowell took their first lead of the night, as Pierson Brandon corralled a lead pass before firing on net, beating Svedebäck high blocker-side on a tight angle to make it 2-1.
- Providence tied it up with 13:02 to play in the third period when
John Mustard put a rebound opportunity on net, deflecting off
Nick Poisson's leg and into the back of the net, pushing the score to 2-2.
- The Friars reclaimed the lead with just under three minutes to play, as
Logan Sawyer  cashed in on a wrap-around opportunity, giving Providence the 3-2 edge.
- With 1:22 to play,
Nick Poisson won the puck in the neutral zone before firing a backhanded shot on the empty net, clinching both his second-career hat trick as well as the 4-2 win for the Friars.

Scouting the Warriors:
-Â Merrimack (13-16-1, 9-10-1 HEA) enters their matchup with the Friars following a weekend without action. The Warriors last played on Feb. 14-15 when they hosted Vermont, losing 4-2 on Friday (Feb. 14) before topping the Catamounts 4-3 on Saturday (Feb. 15).
- Through 30 games this season, forward David Sacco (9-0-9) leads the team in goals with nine, followed by Antonio Venuto (8-5-13) with eight goals and Ty Daneault (6-7-13), Michael Emerson (6-5-11), and Tyler Young (6-4-10) with six goals apiece.
- Defenseman Seamus Powell (3-16-19) paces the Warriors in assists this season with 16, followed by Zach Bookman (3-14-17) with 14 assists and Nick Pierre (5-11-16) with 11 assists.
- Overall, Powell leads the team in total points this season with 19, followed by Bookman with 17 points, Pierre with 16 points, and Caden Cranston (5-9-14) with 14 points.
- In net, the Warriors have split time in net, with the majority of starts going to freshman goaltender Max Lundgren, who in 20 games has posted a 8-9-0 record to accompany his .905 save percentage and 3.02 goals against average. The Warriors have also started junior Nils Wallstrom, who in 10 games has earned a 4-5-0 record to go along with his .881 save percentage and 3.24 goals against average.
- This season, the Warriors have posted one of the least-effective penalty kills, stopping 73% of extra-attacker opportunities, good for seventh-worst across the NCAA.

Series History vs. Merrimack (90-40-12, .703)
This weekend's matchup with Merrimack marks the only meeting between the Friars and Warriors this season. Since the 2021-22 season, Providence has battled to a 4-5-0 record against Merrimack, with the most recent result being the Warriors' 2-1 home win over Providence on March 1, 2024. In that span, the Friars are 2-2-0 when facing Merrimack at home, 1-3-0 when facing the Warriors in North Andover, and 1-0-0 on neutral ice.

Sawyer Earns Hockey East Rookie of the Week Honors
Providence College's
Logan Sawyer (Orangeville, Ont.) was named Pro Ambitions Hockey East Rookie of the Week on Monday, February 24. In their lone game of the weekend, Sawyer tallied the game-winning goal with 2:53 to play in regulation to complete the comeback bid over No. 13 UMass Lowell in a 4-2 win. This marks the second time Sawyer has earned the recognition this month and the fifth time a Friar has earned Rookie of the Week honors this season (

Eight Former Friars Earn Spots On NHL Opening Night Rosters
The Friars boasted eight alums that appeared on NHL opening night rosters - Noel Acciari (PIT), Jacob Bryson (BUF), Vincent Desharnais (VAN), Brandon Duhaime (WSH), Mark Jankowski (NSH), Kevin Rooney (CGY), Brandon Tanev (SEA) and Jake Walman (SJ).

Callahan/Ford Make NHL Debuts
Former Friar captain Mike Callahan '22 made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins on Jan. 14 against the Tampa Bay Lightning. He finished the night with a +1 rating in 14:11 of ice time. He has appeared in seven games for Boston this season. Parker Ford made his NHL debut for the Winnipeg Jets on Jan. 30 against his hometown Boston Bruins, scoring a goal in his debut.

Connelly Wins Gold With the U.S. At The 2025 World Junior Championship
Freshman
Trevor Connelly won gold with the United States at 2025 World Junior Championship after their 4-3 overtime win over Finland in the gold medal game on Jan. 5. Connelly finished the tournament with one goal, three assists and a +3 rating over seven games.

Leaman Hits Milestone
Head Coach
Nate Leaman earned his 249th career victory at Providence on Nov. 11, 2023, passing Lou Lamoriello as the program's winningest head coach all-time. On October 25, 2024, Leaman hit 400 career wins as a Division I head coach in Providence's 3-2 overtime win at Vermont. Leaman is the only Hockey East coach to post a winning record in each of the last 12 seasons.

Tanner Adams (10-10-20) leads the Friars with 10 goals on the year, followed by nine each from
Hudson Malinoski (9-11-20) and
Graham Gamache (9-8-17).
Logan Will (8-13-21) headlines the team in assists with 13 on the year, followed by both
John Mustard (7-12-19) and
Andrew Centrella (2-12-14) with 12 apiece. Overall, Will paces the team with 21 total points, followed by Adams and Malinoski with 20 points apiece, Mustard with 19 points, and Gamache with 17 points. This season, 22 different players have tallied a point, including 13 players with 10+ points and seven players with 15+ points.

Svedebäck, Richard, Adams Nominated for 2025 Hobey Baker Award
Providence College men's ice hockey junior goaltender Philip Svedebäck (Växjö, Sweden), senior defenseman
Guillaume Richard (Cap-Sante, Que.), and sophomore forward
Tanner Adams (Northport, N.Y.) were all named as nominees for the 2025 Hobey Baker Award on Wednesday (Jan. 22). In 20 games this season, Svedebäck has posted a 13-6-4 record alongside a 2.39 GAA and .913 save percentage. Richard has posted one goal and nine assists this season to go alongside a team-leading 40 blocked shots. Adams paces the Friars in goals this season with 10 and is tied for second in overall scoring with 20 points on the year.
