Men’s Lacrosse Defeated By Villanova, 11-8

The Friars will host Marquette on Saturday, April 12 for their Senior Day.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Providence College men's lacrosse team was defeated by Villanova (5-5, 2-0 BIG EAST), 11-8 on Saturday, April 5 in Providence, R.I.  With the loss, the Friars fell to 4-7 on the season and 0-2 in BIG EAST play. Rhett Chambers (Larchmont, N.Y.), Richie Joseph (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Jack Horrigan (Lutherville, Md.) each recorded two goals for the Friars.


1st Quarter:

• Villanova started the scoring with a goal at 10:02 to take a 1-0 lead.

• The Friars responded with a goal from Jay Wilkerson (Baltimore, Md.), to tie the game 1-1 at 9:29.

• The Wildcats regained the lead, 2-1, at 8:10.

• Horrigan scored his 100th career goal to tie the game with 6:31 left in the first quarter.

• Villanova responded with two-consecutive goals to take a 4-2 lead.

• Joseph scored for the Friars, cutting the Wildcats' lead to 4-3


2nd Quarter:

• Villanova scored two unanswered goals to extend its lead to 6-3 at 6:13.

• The Wildcats outshot the Friars 22-18 and converted 7-of-10 opportunities from the X in the first half.

• Villanova recorded seven caused turnovers, while Providence registered just one in the first half.

3rd Quarter:

•The Friars opened the third quarter with two-consecutive goals. Chambers and Owen Finetto (Haworth, N.J.) both found the back of the net, cutting Villanova's lead to 6-5 at 11:44.

• The Wildcats responded with two quick goals, making the score 8-5 at 6:42.

• Joseph answered, finding the back of the net to narrow the score to 8-6 (6:06).

• Villanova added two unanswered goals to extend its lead to 10-6 at 3:40.

• Chambers responded with a score at the end of the third quarter, making it 10-7 heading into the fourth quarter.

• The Wildcats outshot the Friars 16-7 in the third quarter.

4th Quarter

• Villanova opened the fourth quarter with a goal to extend its lead to 11-7 at 5:36.

• Horrigan found the back of the net for the Friars at 1:25, making the score 11-8.

• Villanova held on to an 11-8 lead as the final horn sounded.

Notes:

• Horrigan netted two goals, including his 100th career goal for the Friars. The senior has now recorded 125 career points (101 goals / 24 assists) and ranks 16th on the Friars all-time scoring list. Horrigan has also recorded 101 career goals and ranks fifth in all-time goals scored at Providence.

• Bell recorded two assists. The Friars' all-time leading scorer owns 214 career points and is the first player in program history to reach 200 points. Bell is also the program's all-time assist leader (153 assists).

• Jospeh recorded two goals and has now scored 78 career goals and ranks 18th for the Friars in all-time goals.

• Donahue recorded 11 saves and a .500 save percentage for the Friars.

•The Friars went 11-of-22 from the faceoff 'X'

• Villanova outshot the Friars 42-32.
