The 6-1 guard played at the University of South Florida last season.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Bryan Hodgson announced today (April 21) that 6-1 freshman guard Gavin Hightower (Los Angeles, Calif.) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence in 2026-27.

"We are excited that Gavin is coming with us to Friartown," Hodgson said. "We knew that Gavin would be a perfect fit as we continued to build out our roster. He showed continual growth and improvement throughout the season last year.  As his confidence grew, his role increased late in the season. Gavin has a blend of speed, athleticism, competitiveness and skill that makes him a great fit for what we ask our players to accomplish on both ends of the floor."

Hightower helped lead the University of South Florida to a 25-9 mark, an AAC regular season title, an AAC tournament title and a berth in the NCAA Tournament in 2025-26. He averaged 4.1 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 26 games.  Hightower shot an impressive 52.8 percent from the field. He also averaged 3.0 steals per 40 minutes. Hightower earned his second AAC Freshman of the Week honor after a breakout performance in South Florida's 109–88 win versus UTSA on Feb. 4. The freshman scored a career-high 21 points on a perfect 8-8 shooting from the field, while adding two rebounds and three assists in just 17 minutes of action, all in the second half of the game. Hightower had a strong game, scoring 12 points, grabbing four rebounds, dishing off three assists and recording three steals versus Louisville in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on March 19, 2026.

Prior to going to USF, Hightower attended Sierra Canyon High School.  He was a four-star recruit, according to ESPN.  ESPN rated him as the No. 34 point guard, No. 30 in his region and No. 15 in California.
