Providence College To Celebrate Retirement Of John O'Neill

The celebration will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Providence College will honor longtime swimming and diving Head Coach John O'Neill with a special celebration recognizing his extraordinary 36 years of service and lasting impact on Friar Athletics.
The day will begin with the Swim Across America Rhode Island event at Roger Wheeler State Beach. The opening ceremony begins at 9:30 a.m. with the swim beginning at 10:15 a.m.
Activities on Providence College's campus will continue with a cocktail hour beginning at 5:00 p.m. at the Langwell Family Plaza and Pavilion (located outside the main entrance of the nursing school), followed by a reception in the Ben Mondor Center for Nursing and Health Sciences from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A speaking program will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Alumni, former student-athletes, colleagues, family, friends and supporters of the program are invited to join in celebrating Coach O'Neill's remarkable legacy and contributions to Providence College.
O'Neill founded the program in 1984 and led Providence Swimming & Diving for 36 combined seasons, earning multiple Coach of the Year honors while mentoring generations of student-athletes and coaching numerous BIG EAST champions.
