Men’s Basketball To Face VCU In Opening Round Of The Maui Invitational

The Friars will be making their fourth appearance all-time in Maui.
PROVIDENCE, R.I.- The matchups for the 2026 Maui Invitational were announced today (July 29). The Providence College men's basketball team will face VCU in the opening round on Monday, Nov. 23 at 9:00 p.m. E.T. on ESPNU. The following day, the Friars will play Arizona or Colorado State on Tuesday, Nov. 24 at 5:00 p.m. E.T. on ESPN2 or 10:30 p.m. on ESPNU. On Wednesday, Nov. 25, the Friars will play Washington, Ole Miss, BYU or Clemson. Game times on Wednesday will be 2:30 p.m. E.T. (ESPN), 5:30 p.m. E.T. (ESPN2), 10:00 p.m. E.T. (ESPN2) and 12:30 a.m. E.T. (Thursday, Nov. 26) (ESPN2).

The Friars will be making their fourth appearance all-time in the Maui Invitational. The Friars most recent appearance was in 2020 when the tournament was held in Asheville, N.C. due to Covid. The Friars also participated in the Maui Invitational in 1991 and 1984. The team has registered a 4-4 mark all-time, which includes a 2-0 mark in 1984 when the squad captured the inaugural Maui Invitational.
Providence's opening round game versus VCU will mark just the second time ever the two teams have met. In the first meeting, the Friars defeated the Rams, 103-71, on Dec. 8, 1969 in Providence.
VCU has earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament 12 times in the last 15 years, including the 2026 Tournament where they recorded a 76-55 win over North Carolina in the first round. VCU finished the season with a 28-8 mark and a 15-3 record in Atlantic 10 play.
