Men's Basketball Adds Javon Bardwell To The 2026-27 Roster

The 6-7 small forward, who played for Overtime Elite last season, is the third highest ranked recruit ever coming out of high school to attend PC according to ESPN.com, Rivals.com and 247Sports.com.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Providence College men's basketball Head Coach Bryan Hodgson announced today (August 31) that 6-7 small forward Javon Bardwell (Harlem, N.Y.) has signed an athletic aid agreement to attend Providence in 2026-27.
Bardwell is a consensus four-star, top-36 recruit in the class of 2026. He is ranked No. 33 (11th for small forwards) by 247Sports.com, No. 35 (10th for small forwards) according to ESPN.com and No. 36 (11th for small forwards) by Rivals.com. Bardwell is the third highest ranked recruit ever coming out of high school to attend Providence College, according to ESPN.com, 247Sports.com and Rivals.com. Only Ricky Ledo and Kris Dunn, both in the class of 2012, were ranked higher than Bardwell coming out of high school.
Bardwell was listed in the class of 2027, before reclassifying recently. While in the class of 2027, he was ranked No. 16 (fifth for small forwards) by 247Sports.com, No. 18 (sixth for small forwards) according to ESPN.com and No. 18 (fifth for small forwards) by Rivals.com.
"Javon is a four-star recruit, who became available recently when he reclassified to the class of 2026," Hodgson said. "He averaged 17 points and seven rebounds per game last season at Overtime Elite. Javon is a two-way player with NBA size and athleticism, who will be a dynamic playmaker in Friartown. Javon was recruited by a number of high-major programs and we are excited that we are able to add a player of his caliber to our roster."
Bardwell, who was teammates with fellow Friar Clyde Walters on Overtime Elite RWE, helped the team post a 12-6 mark in 2025-26. He was third on the team in scoring (17.9 ppg) and he led the squad in rebounding (6.8 rpg). Bardwell also averaged 1.2 steals and 1.1 assists in 14 games. He shot 44.0 percent from the field. Bardwell played 23.6 minutes per contest. He recorded two games with 32 or more points, including a season-high 34 points on January 4, 2026 versus YNG Dreamerz. He also added eight rebounds in the game. Bardwell had an impressive performance versus the Diamond Doves on January 29, 2026 as he scored 32 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Bardwell scored 15 or more points in nine of the 14 games he played.
Bardwell played for the Overtime Elite Diamond Doves in 2024-25. In 18 games with the Diamond Doves, he led the team in scoring, averaging 17.7 points per game, while shooting 45.7 percent from the field. He also averaged 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 steals per game. Bardwell posted nine games with 20 or more points, including a season-high 32-point, seven-rebound effort versus RWE on January 24, 2025. He registered two double-doubles on the season. He had 26 points and 12 rebounds against RWE on January 15, 2025.
This summer, Bardwell played for the Compton Magic in the adidas 3SSB Circuit. He averaged 20.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. He was selected to represent the USA on the 3SSB Select squad this summer at the adidas Eurocamp in Treviso, Italy where he scored 25 points against projected top-five lottery pick Stefan Joksimović (PG/SG, Baskonia / Slovenia) who was playing for Team Next Gen.
