The Syracuse University Orangemen defeated the Providence College Friars, 3-2, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I. on Friday, October 15. Syracuse senior forward Gabriel Gervais recorded a hat trick to lead the Orangmen's offense.
Gervais tallied the game-winner with 43 seconds remaining in the match on a pass from sophomore forward Patrice Bernier. PC sophomore midfielder Andrew Bussmann opened the scoring 18 seconds into the match on a low blast, beating Syracuse goalie Kevin Bacher. Syracuse tied the game on a Gervais direct kick at the 53:34 mark. The Friars reclaimed the lead on Bussmann's second goal of the match at 69:34 on an assist from junior forward Kevin Jones. Gervais answered at the 77:08, heading a Bernier cross past PC goalie Danny Glynn.
Bacher made six stops for the Orangemen. Glynn recorded four saves in the loss.
With the win, Syracuse improved to 6-6 overall and 4-3 in the BIG EAST, while Providence fell to 4-7-1 overall and 3-5 in league play.
