PROVIDENCE, R.I. --The Providence College Women's Hockey team defeated the Boston College Eagles 4-3, in ECAC hockey action, on November 21, at PC's Schneider Arena. Junior forward Jessica Tabb (Holland, Mass.) led the Friar attack, registering one goal and two assists.
Both teams were held scoreless untill the 4:51 mark of the second, when Tabb beat Eagle goalie Sharon VanTuyl, on a pass from Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.), to give PC a 1-0 lead. Four minutes later junior Valerie Bono (Woburn, Mass.) extended the Friar lead, on a blast from blue line, a power play goal. Boston College's Lisa Molvar scored a power play goal, at 6:52 of the third period, that seemed to get the Eagle offense rolling. The Friars took a 3-1 lead on a Mathias goal at the 8:46 mark, then the Eagles took over, scoring two goals in :36 seconds. Molvar scored the first at 16:17, and Nicole Fortier tied the game at 16:56. With a little over two minutes to play the Friars shut the door, as sophomore Jennifer Kranz (Waukesha, WI.) notched the game-winner, her first collegiate goal, giving the Friars a 4-3 victory.
Friars goalie Brigid Keady stopped 25 shots, for her first win of the season, while VanTuyl had 33 saves in the loss.
With the win, Providence improves to 5-3-1 overall, 4-2-0 in the ECAC, the Eagles fall to 1-6-0 and 0-6-0 in league play.
Providence will return to action on November 27, when they host the New Hampshire Wildcats, at Schneider Arena at 2:00 p.m..
