PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College Friars extended their winning streak to five consecutive games with a 7-3 victory against the University of Denver in men's hockey action on Saturday, November 27 at PC's Schneider Arena. Seniors Fernando Pisani (two goals, two assists) and Doug Sheppard (one goal, three assists) led the Friar offense with four points each.

PC took a quick 1-0 lead when Fernando Pisani went end-to-end and slid a low shot under Denver goaltender Wade Dubielewicz 51 seconds into the game. The Friars increased their lead to 2-0 when Devin Rask scored on a break in from the left side with a quick wrist shot high into the top right corner. Kelly Popadynetz put the Pioneers on the scoreboard with a short-handed tally at 16:42. Popadynetz stole the puck at the PC blueline and scored on Friar netminder Boyd Ballard with a quick backhand shot.

Pisani netted his second goal of the night at 8:28 of the second period to put the Friars ahead, 3-1. However, Bjorn Engstrom pushed in a rebound during a power play to bring the Pioneers within one goal (3-2) at the 17:53 mark of the second period.

PC's Peter Fregoe started the scoring in a wild third period as he one timed a slap shot at a bad angle past Dubielewicz during a power play at the 7:37 mark. With a two goal cushion (4-2) the Friars lead looked comfortable until Denver's Juss Stauss scored off a blast from the left point to make it a one-goal game at the 11:20 mark. PC defenseman Matt Libby scored a crucial goal for the Friars after taking a feed from the draw in the defensive zone and skating up the ice and beating Dubielewicz with a backhand shot on the breakaway at 17:59. The Friars sealed the win with empty net goals by Doug Sheppard at 18:47 and Doug Wright at 19:05.

With the win, Providence raised its record to 7-6 overall, while Denver fell to 5-9.

Providence College returns to HOCKEY EAST action on Friday, December 3 against Merrimack at 7:00 p.m. PC's Schneider Arena.
