The Friars took a 3-0 lead after 20 minutes of play on goals by Cole Gendreau, Nick Lent and Doug Sheppard. Gendreau got the Friars going with a snap shot from the right face-off circle that found the back of the net at 7:26 of the first. Nick Lent netted the Friars' second goal when he one-timed a pass from Marc Suderman at the 10:08 mark. PC's third goal came in a short-handed situation as Doug Sheppard blasted a slap shot from the top of the right circle that beat Army netminder Scott Hamilton to the glove side at 12:25 of the first.
PC increased its lead to 4-0 when Jon Coe scored on a slap shot from the blue line at 6:51 of the second. Army's Jason Choi got the Cadets on the scoreboard when he wristed in a shot from the right face off circle at 8:21 of the second. Adam Lee tallied the final goal of the second period to give the Friars a 5-1 lead at the 13:16 mark.
Fernando Pisani tallied the Friars' sixth goal of the game at 7:44 of the third period when he stuffed the puck past Army netminder Jason Galui who entered the game at 13:16 of the second period. Mike Dugan finished the scoring in the game when he jammed in a rebound at 9:06 of the third for Army's second goal of the night.
With the win, Providence raised its record to 15-13 overall, while Army fell to 14-14-1 overall.
Providence College will return to HOCKEY EAST action against Boston University on Saturday, Feb. 13 at 7:00 p.m. at PC's Schneider Arena.
