PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College overcame a three-goal deficit to earn a 4-3 win over ninth-ranked Boston College in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, January 22 at PC's Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I.
The Eagles' Krys Kolanos netted the only goal of the first period when he redirected Bobby Allen's slap shot from the right point past PC's Nolan Schaefer at the 5:47 mark.
BC's Ales Dolinar and Kevin Caulfield scored at 8:06 and 8:37, respectively, in the second period to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead. The Friars came to life at 10:02 of the second period when Peter Fregoe slapped a shot into an empty net as BC goaltender Scott Clemmensen was out of the crease. Fernando Pisani brought the Friars within one goal of the lead when he blasted in a slap shot from the blueline during a power play at the 14:11 mark of the second period.
The Friars evened the score at 8:31 of the third period on a short-handed goal by Drew Omicioli. Omicioli blocked a shot at PC's blueline and skated the puck into BC's end before tucking a backhander past Clemmensen. Doug Wright scored what proved to be the game winner for the Friars when he finished off a three-on-one break in with a one-timer through Clemmensen's pads at 14:15 of the third. BC pulled Clemmensen (19 saves) with 1:26 remaining in the game, but was unable to get a shot past Schaefer, who finished the game with 36 saves.
With the win, Providence improved to 12-10-1 overall and 4-7 in HOCKEY EAST, while Boston College fell to 13-7-1 overall and 6-6-1 in league action.
