PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College defeated Quinnipiac University, 4-2, in men's soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Wednesday, October 25. Friar junior Tom Blesso (Billerica, Mass.) sparked the Friar offense with two goals and one assist.

Quinnipiac got on the board first when Everson Maciel (Londrina, PR Brazil) converted on a rebound of a Samuel Lopes (North Dartmouth, Mass.) shot at the 10:41 mark. Senior forward Frank Vigliotti (Branford, Conn.) gave the Braves a 2-0 lead at 59:41. Vilgliotti scored when he chipped a shot past PC sophomore goalkeeper Michael Greulich (Cincinnatti, Ohio) following a long pass that got through the Friar defense.

Four second-half goals propelled the Friars to victory. Junior forward Andrew Bussmann (Guilford, Conn.) netted PC's first tally of the day when he scored off a cross from freshman midfielder Jonathan Rhode (Guilford, Conn.) at 62:14.

Providence evened the game at 1-1 when Blesso recorded his first goal of the game. Blesso directed a cross from graduate student Derek Cobbe (Dublin, Ireland) into the net at 75:32.

Blesso netted what proved to be the game-winning goal at the 75:57 mark. Blesso headed the ball past Quinnipiac goalkeeper Jarrod Garritano (Staten Island, N.Y.) following a free kick from Cobbe at 77:57.

Providence added an insurance goal at 89:14 when Blesso fed sophomore forward Todd Stigliano (Newington, Conn.) with a pass that sent him on a breakaway.

Greulich recorded four saves as he earned his first career victory with the Friars. Quinnipiac's Garritano posted one save in the loss. With the win, Providence improved to 4-11-1 overall while Quinnipiac fell to 6-7-2 on the season.

Providence College returns to action on Sunday, October 29 when the Friars travel to the University of Virginia.
