Men's Soccer Defeats Notre Dame, 3-1

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College defeated Notre Dame, 3-1, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Sunday, October 8. Friar sophomore Tom Blesso (Billerica, Mass.) led the PC offense with one goal and two assists.

The Friars got on the scoreboard first when senior Kevin Jones (Westford, Mass.) blasted a shot from the top of the box past Notre Dame sophomore goalkeeper Greg Tait (Fayetteville, N.Y.) at 19:07. Notre Dame freshman Kevin Richards (Warwick, Bermuda) evened the game at 1-1 with his first collegiate goal at the 33:31 mark.

PC graduate student Derek Cobbe (Dublin, Ireland) chipped a high shot over Tait for what proved to be the game-winning goal at 57:02. Blesso added an insurance goal to seal the win for the Friars at 79:19.

Friar junior goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) recorded four stops in the win. With the win, Providence improved to 3-7-1 overall and 3-4-1 in BIG EAST action, while Notre Dame fell to 4-6-1 overall and 1-5-0 in league play.

Providence College returns to action on Tuesday, October 10 at Brown University at 7:00 p.m.
