WHO'S HOT: Marc Suderman has tallied at least one point in each of the Friars' last seven games.
FRIARS FALL TO MINUTEMEN...The Friars' record stands at 8-4-3 after a 3-1 loss to UMass-Amherst on December 8 at Schneider Arena. The Friars lost their second home contest of the season at Schneider Arena and also dropped their fifth straight contest versus UMass-Amherst. Sophomore Jon DiSalvatore (S. Windsor, Conn.) netted the Friars' lone goal, his sixth of the season, assisted by junior Marc Suderman (Regina, Saskatchewan) and junior Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.). Senior Boyd Ballard (Weyburn, Saskatchewan) stopped 15 shots in the loss.
FIVE STRAIGHT... Friday's game marked the fifth straight win for the Minutemen over the Friars. PC's last win over UMass-Amherst was a 3-2 victory on February 26, 1999 at Schneider Arena.
BUILDING AND HOLDING THE LEAD...PC is unbeaten this season when holding the lead at the second intermission, (7-0-3). The Friars are also an impressive 8-0-2 when scoring three or more goals.
VERSUS UNRANKED Opponents...The Friars have posted a 3-3-1 record versus unranked opponents this season. The Friars have defeated Miami on October 20, Union on October 29 and Merrimack on December 2. PC lost to Brown on November 4, Merrimack on December 1 and UMass-Amherst on December 8. There only tie versus an unranked opponent was at Denver on November 25. However, PC's record against ranked teams is 5-1-2.
NEXT FOR THE FRIARS... The Friars will travel to Denver, Colorado for the ninth-annual Denver Cup at the University of Denver's Magness Arena. The Friars' first-round opponent will be the Ferris State Bulldogs on December 29 at 6:35 p.m. (EST). On December 30, PC will play either the Air Force Academy or the tournament host, Denver, at 6:05/9:05 p.m. (EST).
THE PROVIDENCE-FERRIS STATE SERIES...PC's games versus Ferris State on December 29 will mark the first meeting ever between the two teams.
THE PROVIDENCE-AIR FORCE SERIES... The Friars have posted a 9-1-0 record all-time versus the Falcons. The two teams first met on January 2, 1988 with Providence defeating Air Force, 3-2, at the Cadet Ice Arena. The Friars' last win against the Falcons was a 9-1 win on January 6, 1996 at the Cadet Ice Arena. PC's only loss to Air Force was a 5-4 defeat on January 1, 1994.
THE PROVIDENCE-DENVER SERIES...The Friars hold a 7-5-1 advantage in the all-time series against the Pioneers. In the first meeting ever for the two schools, the Pioneers defeated the Friars, 6-4, at Schneider Arena. The Friars' last win against Denver was a 7-3 victory on November 27, 1999 at Schneider Arena. The last time PC lost to Denver, the Pioneers earned a 3-2 double overtime win at Magness Arena on October 16, 1999 at the Ice Breaker Tournament. In the most recent, the two schools skated to a 3-3 tie on November 25, 2000 at Magness Arena.
AT MAGNESS ARENA... The Friars have recorded a 1-1-1 mark all-time at Magness Arena. On October 15, 1999, the Friars opened the Ice Breaker Tournament with a 2-1 win against Notre Dame. The following night, the Friars were defeated by Denver, 3-2, in double overtime of the Championship Game of the Ice Breaker Tournament. On November 25, 2000, Denver and PC skated to a 3-3 tie at Magness Arena.
OPENING MAGNESS...Last season, the Friars defeated Notre Dame, 2-1, in the first game ever at Denver's Magness Arena on October 15, 2000 Juniors Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) and Marc Suderman (Regina, Saskatchewan) netted the first two goals ever scored at Magness Arena. Fregoe's tally was the first-ever goal scored at Magness Arena, it also was his first collegiate goal. Suderman's goal was game-winner, the first ever at Magness Arena and the first game-winning goal of Suderman's career.
