PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Maine junior forward Dan Kerluke tallied his second career hat trick to lead the sixth-ranked Maine Black Bears to a 3-2 win over the Providence College Friars in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, March 4 at PC's Schneider Arena in Providence, R.I.

The Friars came out flying in the first period, taking a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes of play. Jon DiSalvatore netted the first goal of the game when he wristed in a rebound on a power-play at the 6:20 mark. PC increased its lead when Matt Libby took a feed of a face off and blasted a shot from the left point past Maine goaltender Matt Yeats at the 15:27 mark.

Maine goaltender Mike Morrison replaced Yeats at the start of the second period and gave Maine a spark as the Black Bears tallied two goals to even the game at the end of the second. Kerluke netted his first goal of the night at the 9:50 mark when he blasted a slap shot into the right corner of the net past Friar netminder Boyd Ballard. Kerluke picked the corner again on his second goal as he took a feed off a face off and rifled a shot into the lower left corner of the net with 1:25 remaining in the second period.

The play went back and forth in the third period before Kerluke took advantage of a turnover behind the PC net. After the turnover Kerluke got a feed and sent a low shot through Ballard's five hole at the 12:13 mark for what proved to be the game winner.

Morrison earned the win for Maine after making 17 stops. Ballard recorded 29 stops in the loss.

With the win, Maine improved to 22-7-5 overall and 13-7-4 in HOCKEY EAST, while Providence moved to 18-16-2 overall and 10-13-1 in league action.

Providence College will return to action in the HOCKEY EAST Quarterfinals at Maine or Boston College on Thursday or Friday.
