PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College defeated Georgetown University, 2-1, in men's BIG EAST soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Saturday, September 30.

After a scoreless first half, Providence sophomore Todd Stigliano (Newington, Conn.) scored from the top of the box to give the Friars a 1-0 lead at the 74:14 mark. Freshman Jonathan Rhode (Guilford, Conn.) increased PC's lead as he scored on a breakaway at 84:10. The Hoyas got on the scoreboard with 40 seconds remaining in the game when freshman Greg Freeburg (Pasadena, Calif.) headed in a cross.

Friar junior goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) recorded seven stops in the win. Georgetown sophomore goalkeeper Brian O'Hagan (St. Louis, Mo.) made five saves for the Hoyas.

With the win, Providence improved to 2-6-1 overall and 2-3-1 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown fell to 4-3-1 overall and 1-2-1 in league play.

Providence College returns to action on Wednesday, October 4 at the University of Connecticut at 7:00 p.m.
