PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The ninth-ranked University of Connecticut Huskies defeated the Providence College Friars, 1-0, in BIG EAST men's soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Wednesday, October 31.
In a closely played first half, the Huskies held a 2-1 shot advantage after 45 minutes of play. However in the second half, the UConn offense pressured the Friars, forcing PC senior goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) to make six saves before the Huskies got on the scoreboard. UConn senior Chris Gbandi (Houston, Texas) took a pass on the left side and blasted a shot past Glynn with 3:21 remaining in regulation for the only goal of the contest.
Glynn finished with seven saves in the loss. UConn senior Bryheem Hancock (Middletown, Del.) played in goal for the Huskies, but he did not record a save.
With win, Connecticut improved to 11-3-2 overall and 7-1 in BIG EAST action, while Providence fell to 0-13-2 overall and 0-9 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, November 3 at Quinnipiac at 2:00 p.m.
