PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Providence College and Brown played to a 1-1 tie in men's soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Tuesday, October 9. For the Friars, the tie ended the team's six-game losing streak against the Bears.
The Friars took a 1-0 lead at 34:11 when senior Tom Blesso (Billerica, Mass.) broke in and blasted a shot into the lower left corner past Brown freshman goalkeeper Chris Gomez (Bellflower, Calif.).
Friar junior goalkeepr Michael Greulich (Cincinnati, Ohio) replaced PC senior Danny Glynn (Manchester, England), who left the game after 16:42 with an injury. Greulich played well for the Friars, keeping the Bears off the scoreboard until the 76:28 mark when senior Adam Buchanan (Chandler, Ariz.) scored with a shot high into the net from the top of the box for what would prove to be the final goal of the game.
After a scoreless 15 minute overtime, Brown pressured the Friar defense in the second 15 minute overtime. The Bears offense produced three breakaways, but each attempt was stopped by the aggressive play of Greulich, who finished the game with four saves.
Gomez made three saves in net for the Bears.
With the tie, Providence's record is 0-7-2, while Brown has a 3-5-1 mark.
