PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The Providence College men's ice hockey team was defeated by the University of New Hampshire, 5-1, in HOCKEY EAST action on Saturday, November 17 at PC's Schneider Arena.

The Wildcats opened a two-goal lead in the first period, as UNH's David Busch scored on a rebound from a Darren Haydar shot that left PC goaltender Nolan Sheafer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) out of position to stop the rebound shot. Josh Prudden increased UNH's lead to 2-0 less than two minutes later.

In the second period, PC's Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) scored on the power play from junior captain Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) and sophomore defenseman Stephen Wood (Sudbury, Mass.). Sean Collins answered with a goal of his own, putting UNH back up by two goals.

In the third period, Collins added a power-play goals and Colin Hemingway scored a power play goal as well to put the final touches on New Hampshire's 5-1 win over the Friars.

Schaefer made 36 saves in the loss while his counterpart, UNH's Matt Carney totalled 27 saves in the victory.

The Friars return to action on Tuesday, November 20 when they travel to Union College for a 7:00 p.m. non-conference contest.
