The Providence College Women's hockey team defeated Harvard University, 6-0, at the Bright Hockey Center on Sunday, November 25.

Freshman Carrie Holldorf (Glenwood City, Wis.) scored the first of her two goals at the 3:45 mark of the first period to put the Friars ahead, 1-0. Senior Kim Mathias (Ballston Lake, N.Y.) and junior Melanie Ruzzi (Burnsville, Minn) assisted on the goal. Sophomores Meredith Roth (Dubuque, Iowa) and Sarah Youlen (Potsdam, N.Y.) also scored in the first period to give PC a 3-0 lead going into the first intermission.

In the second period, PC increased its lead to 4-0 as senior Jackie Tamsin (Branford, Conn.) scored her first goal of the season off assists from freshman Rush Zimmerman (Grosse Pointe, Mich) and Youlen. The Friars completed the scoring in the third period as senior Jenn Butsch scored her team leading sixth goal of the season while Holldorf added her second goal of the game at the 13:55 mark. For Holldorf, it was the second straight game she scored two goals.

Freshman goaltender Amy Thomas (Austin, Texas) made 12 saves for the Friars to earn her first-career shutout. Harvard's Jessica Ruddock (Guelph, Ont.) made 28 saves in the loss. PC outshot Harvard, 34-12.

With the win, the Friars ended a five-game winless streak and improved to 4-5-2, while the Crimson fell to 3-4-1. The last time Harvard suffered a shutout loss was on February 6, 2000 against Providence.

The Friars face Northeastern in a home-and-home series this weekend. The Friars host the Huskies at PC's Schneider Arena on Saturday, December 1. PC travels to Northeastern on Sunday, December 2. Opening faceoff for both games is at 2:00 p.m.
