PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Providence College sophomores Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) and Roisin McGettigan (Wicklow, Ireland) each qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track Championship at the first day of competition at the prestigious Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa. on Thursday, April 26.
Freeburg won the college women's division in the javelin throw with her season best toss of 48.20 meters.
McGettigan placed 10th in the championship division of the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She finished in a time of 10:45.41.
Sophomore Claire Shearman (Portsmouth, N.H.) and senior Francine Darroch (Cambridge, Ontario) also competed for the Friars in the 3,000 meters in the championship division. Shearman finished third (9:35.98) and Darroch placed 11th (9:49.47).
The Friars will return to action on Saturday, April 28 at the Penn Relays with a women's team in the 4 x mile relay and a men's team in the 4 x 800 relay.
