DURHAM, N.H. -- The Providence College men's soccer team overcame a two-goal deficit to earn a 3-3 tie against the University of New Hampshire on Wednesday, September 26 at Durham, N.H.
The Friars, who had been held scoreless through the first five games, got their first goal of the season from freshman midfielder Jeff Smith (Omaha, Neb.) on a blast from the left side at the 9:13 mark. However, the UNH Wildcats stormed back to take a 3-1 lead on three consecutive first half goals by senior midfielder Andy Karam (Schenectady, N.Y.) at 11:54, sophomore midfielder Josh Harold (North Kingstown, R.I.) at 21:46 and freshman forward Logan Lee (Racine, Wis.) at 41:02.
The Friars got within one goal of tying the game when senior back Kempes Corbally (Dublin, Ireland) scored off a direct kick at 61:02. Senior forward Russell Corner (Abington, Mass.) registered the game-tying goal for the Friars at the 78:57 mark.
Friar senior goalkeeper Danny Glynn (Manchester, England) recorded four stops for PC. UNH senior goalkeeper Shaun O'Neil (Wrentham, Mass.) played the first 45 minutes of the game before being relieved by freshman Mike Vignola (Hudson, N.H.), who made seven stops and allowed two goals.
With the tie, Providence is 0-5-1 overall, while New Hampshire is 2-3-1.
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, September 29 at Georgetown at 1:00 p.m.
