Field Hockey Falls To Syracuse, 2-1

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Syracuse, 2-1, in BIG EAST Conference action on Friday, October 18 in Syracuse, N.Y. The Orangewomen earned the victory with 59 seconds remaining in regulation as Lindsay Peirson scored the game-winning goal off an assist from Brittany Carriero.

The Friars took the first lead of the game (1-0) as junior defender Stefanie Suehnholz (Flemington, N.J.) scored at the 21:02 mark of the first half. PC held the 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Syracuse tied the game, 1-1, as Kristin Aronowicz converted a penalty stroke with 12:28 left in the game. The game remained knotted, 1-1, until Peirson's last-minute heroics.

Junior goalkeeper Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) made two saves in goal on nine Syracuse attempts. Audrey Latsko collected five saves for the Orangewomen on seven Friar shots. Syracuse held a 4-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Providence (8-9, 1-2 BIG EAST) will travel to Brown University for a non-conference match-up on Wednesday, October 23 at 4:00 p.m. The Friars will return home to host BIG EAST Conference foe Villanova on Sunday, October 27 at 1:00 p.m.
