PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College field hockey team fell to Brown, 3-2, in penalty strokes after two scoreless overtime periods at Warner Field on the campus of Brown University.
Brown took a 1-0 lead with 6:12 remaining in the first half as Laurel Pierpont connected on an unassisted goal. The Bears took a 2-0 lead in the second half as Meaghan Harwood scored off an assist from Elizabeth Buza with 14:44 remaining in regulation.
Providence rallied to tie the game as junior Kelly Romanowicz (Shrewsbury, Mass.) scored two-straight goals to tie the game and force overtime. Romanowicz's first goal came at the 5:41 mark of the second half off an assist from senior Courtney Dow (Hampstead, N.H.). Romanowicz then scored her second goal, unassisted, to tie the game at 2-2 with 37-seconds remaining on the clock.
After two 15-minute overtime periods, the Bears took the victory with a 4-2 advantage in penalty strokes. Providence outshot Brown, 23-19, and held the advantage in penalty corners, 11-10.
Junior Meaghan Moran (Framingham, Mass.) registered 10 saves in goal for Providence. Kathryn Noe made 15 saves in goal for the Bears.
Providence (8-10, 1-2 BIG EAST) will host Villanova in BIG EAST Conference action on Sunday, October 27 in Providence, R.I. at 1:00 p.m.
