Villanova University Wildcats (4-11/2-6) - The Wildcats come to Glay Field trying to earn their fifth win of the season. In its last game on October 23, Villanova was defeated, at home, by Notre Dame, 5-0. The Wildcats have been boosted by the emergence of current BIG EAST Co-Rookie of the week Charlie Rowan (Livingston, N.J.). The freshman forward scored the game-tying and game-winning goals in a 3-2 victory over West Virginia on October 19. For the season, Rowan leads the team in goals (four) and points (eight). Senior Sean Teesdale (Blue Bell, Pa.) and Junior Jon Williams (Westfield, N.J.) have split time in goal for the Wildcats this season. Teesdale has started eight games and Williams has started six games. Teesdale has compiled a record of 3-5, with one shutout, and Williams has a 1-6 record. He also has one shutout. As a team, Villanova is averaging just 0.99 goals per game, while giving up an average of 2.32 goals per game. Head Coach Larry Sullivan is in his 12th year at Villanova and led the Wildcats to a 3-1 victory over the Friars last season. Villanova and Providence have met 13 times with the Wildcats owning a 7-4-2 record.
Providence College Friars (4-10/3-5) - The Friars return to Glay Field for their first game since an October 12 victory against West Virginia (1-0). This will be the final BIG EAST contest at home for Providence, who is 2-2 in BIG EAST home games this season. The Friars will look to rebound from two road losses to Brown (2-0) on October 15, and Seton Hall (1-0) on October 20. The Providence offense has been led this season by senior midfielder Mauricio Solano (Coral Springs, Fla.) and freshman midfielder Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine). Solano leads the Friars in points (11), is tied with sophomore midfielder Carlos Suero (Plantation, Fla.) for the team lead in assists (three), and is second on the team in goals (four). Lynch, a two-time BIG EAST Rookie of the Week, leads Providence with five goals and is second on the team with 10 points. Sophomore Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) has been in goal for the Friars in the team's last seven games. In seven starts, he has compiled a 3-4 record, with all three wins being shutouts. In conference play this season, Newman's 0.60 goals against average ranks him third among BIG EAST goalies. Head Coach Chaka Daley will attempt to lead Providence to its third consecutive BIG EAST win at home. This feat has not been accomplished since the 1998 season when the Friars won four in a row.
