Box Score

BOSTON, Mass. -- The eighth-ranked Providence College men's hockey team was defeated by Northeastern, 4-3, on Friday, November 8 at Matthews Arena in Boston, Mass. The loss was the first defeat of the season for the Friars, who had won a school record seven consecutive games to start the season.

Northeastern jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Mike Ryan and Donny Grover. The Friars cut the lead to 2-1 at 14:41 as Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) collected a rebound in front of the net and recorded a power-play goal. The Friars tied the game with less than two minutes remaining in the first period. Junior Stephen Wood (Sudbury, Mass.) stole the puck just inside the Northeastern blue line and found senior Jon DiSalvatore (S. Windsor, Conn.), who made a cross ice pass to senior Devin Rask (Parkside, Sask.) who scored his eighth goal of the season.

In the second period Fregoe scored his second power-play goal of the night to give the Friars their first lead of the game at 16:22. For Fregoe, it was his team leading 10th goal of the season. However, the Huskies tied the game at 3-3 just over one minute later on Ryan's second tally of the night at 17:41.

The Huskies regained the lead for good in the third period as Brian Tudrick fired back hander past PC's goaltender Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) at 6:18. The Friars nearly tied the game with 1:36 remaining in the third period, but the Huskies' Keni Gibson made a glove save on DiSalvatore's back hander.

Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) made 21 saves for Providence, while Gibson stopped 34 shots.

The Friars are back in action on Saturday, November 9 when they face Northeastern at Schneider Arena at 7:00 p.m.
