CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- The top-seeded Boston College Eagles defeated the eighth-seeded Providence College Friars, 4-0, in BIG EAST Men's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal action on Saturday, November 9 in Chestnut Hill, Mass.

The Friars, who were making their first BIG EAST Tournament appearance since 1998, played a strong first half and trailed, 1-0, after 45 minutes of action. Boston College tallied the lone goal of the first half when Casey Schmidt kicked in a rebound at 18:21.

However, the Friars got into foul trouble when freshman back Brian Baker (Annapolis, Md.) was given a red card 10 minutes into the second half and the team was forced to play short handed for the remainder of the game. Boston College took advantage of the short-handed Friars and tallied three goals in the second half to earn the win. BC's goals in the second half were scored by Adam Pfeifer at 64:50, Bill Arnault at 70:08 and Uri Magen-David at 82:12.

Friar sophomore goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made nine stops in the loss.

With the win, Boston College improved to 13-4 overall, while Providence finished the season with a 7-11 record.
