BOSTON, Mass. -- The Providence College men's hockey team was defeated at Northeastern University, 3-2, on Friday, February 1 in a HOCKEY EAST league contest.

Northeastern's Jason Guerriero scored the game's first goal, giving the Huskies the 1-0 lead 5:19 into the period. Guerriero's power-play goal was the result of tape-to-tape passing and NU defensemen Jim Fahey and Tim Judy were credited with assists. The Friars had their chanced to tie the contest in the first period, including chances on a five-on-three power-play advantage mindway through the period. Providence wasn't able to capitalize on its chances until just under two minutes remained, when PC junior center Doug Wright (Kamsack, Sask.) tipped a Mike Lucci (Parma, Ohio) shot through the pads of Northeastern goaltender Keni Gibson. Wright's fourth goal of the season tied the contest at 1-1.

Northeastern opened a 3-1 lead in the second period with a pair of goals. NU's Chris Lynch put the Huskies up, 2-1, just 3:44 into the middle period. Mike Ryan gave NU a two-goal lead at the 11:25 mark when he beat PC goaltender Nolan Schaefer (Yellow Grass, Sask.) on a breakaway. The Friars pulled to within one goal when Lucci re-directed a Jon DiSalvatore (South Windsor, Conn.) pass to the front of the goal. Senior center Peter Fregoe (Massena, N.Y.) also assisted on the goal.

Schaefer made 35 saves in the loss for the Friars. PC returns to action on Saturday, February 2 at UMass Amherst at 8:00 p.m.
