PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- The University of Rhode Island defeated Providence College, 3-0, in men's soccer action at Providence, R.I., on Wednesday, September 18. Sophomore forward Mohamed Keita (Lanham, Md.) scored the first two goals of the game to lead Rhode Island.

Keita netted his first goal when he headed in a cross off a direct kick at 23:22 to give URI a 1-0 lead. The score remained 1-0 at the end of the first half with the Rams holding a 9-4 shot advantage.

Keita opened the scoring in the second half as he kicked in a rebound from five feet in front of the goal at 48:22. The Friars pressured URI and had several scoring opportunities, but were not able to get a shot past Ram goalkeeper junior Michael Charles (Glendora, Calif.), who finished the game with two saves.

The Rams were credited with the final goal of the game when a cross was deflected into the Providence goal by a Friar defender at 85:12.

Friar senior goalkeeper Michael Greulich (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded seven stops.

With the win, Rhode Island improved to 3-3 overall, while Providence fell to 1-4.

Providence College returns to action on Sunday, September 22 against Notre Dame at South Bend, Ind. at 1:00 p.m.
