WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Providence College men's soccer team defeated Georgetown, 3-1, in BIG EAST action on Saturday, October 4 at Washington, D.C. The win gave the Friars their first victory at Georgetown since 1999 and extended the team's unbeaten streak to four consecutive games.
Georgetown's Paul Brandley scored the only goal of the first half at the 22:19 mark. The Friars came out strong in the second half and tied the game at 57:45 on a goal by sophomore Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine). A minute later, the Friars struck again when sophomore Ian Wexler (Minnetonka, Minn.) dribbled through several defenders and scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal at 58:33. Lynch added his second goal of the contest at 87:00 to seal the victory.
Friar junior goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made four saves in the win.
With the win, Providence improved to 5-4-1 overall and 3-1-1 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown fell to 4-5-2 overall and 1-4 in league play.
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, October 11 at St. John's at 7:30 p.m.
