Women's Basketball Falls To Dartmouth, 64-57

HANOVER, N.H. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Dartmouth, 64-57, in non-conference action on Tuesday, December 2 in Hanover, N.H. Senior Brooke Freeburg (Waterford, Pa.) registered the first double-double of her collegiate career for Providence with 16 points and a career-high 10 rebounds.
The Big Green led by as many as 15 points (27-12) with 8:20 remaining in the first half, but Providence finished the half on a 15-5 scoring run to cut the deficit to five points (32-27) at the halftime break. Elise Morrison scored 10 points to lead Dartmouth in the half. Junior point guard Keisha Blackwell (Baltimore, Md.) led the Friars with eight points in the first half.
In the second half, Dartmouth registered its largest lead of the game (17 points) with 8:10 remaining (56-39). The Friars cut the lead to four points with 4:12 remaining in the game on a 14-0 run to make the score 56-52, but the Big Green closed out the game with an 8-3 scoring run to solidify the win.
Senior Jama Gilmore (Muncie, Ind.) appeared in the starting line-up for Providence in replace of junior Gayle Nwafili (Maplewood, N.J.) who did not play because of an injury. Gilmore registered a career-high eight points. Blackwell finished the night with 13 points, four assists and two steals.
Elise Morrison netted 22 points for Dartmouth. Samantha Burnham registered 13 points, while Jeannie Cullen rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points.
Providence College (1-4) will return home to Alumni Hall on Friday, December 5 to take on in-state rival Rhode Island. The game is slated to tip off at 7:30 p.m. in Providence, R.I.
