PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Providence College women's basketball team was defeated by Seton Hall, 54-42, in BIG EAST Conference action on Thursday, February 13 in Providence, R.I. Sophomore forward Jessica Simmonds (South Orange, N.J.) posted her third double-double of the season for the Friars in the losing effort with a game-high 19 points and 10 rebounds. Simmonds' 19 points also matches a career-high.

The Friars trailed by nine points (26-17) at halftime after falling behind by as many as 13 in the first half. Simmonds led the Friars in the first half with seven points. Seton Hall was led by Cecilia Lindqvist, who also scored seven points in the half. Lindqvist finished the game with a team-high 16 points and added six rebounds.

Providence started the second half of play on a 8-0 scoring run to cut the Pirate's lead to one point (26-25) with 15:26 on the game clock, but that would be the closest the Friars would get for the remainder of the game. Seton Hall outscored Providence 25-17 the rest of the way enroute to the 12-point win (54-42).

Simmonds was the only Friar to reach double figures in scoring. Sophomore forward Quiana Copeland (Mattapan, Mass.) returned to the Friar line-up, after missing two games with the flu, and pulled down a career-high nine rebounds. PC's leading scorer Michal Epstein (Rehovot, Israel) was held to single digits in scoring for just the third time all season (eight points).

Joining Lindqvist in double figures was Monica Johnson, who netted 10 points. Ashley Bush pulled down a team-high seven rebounds for the Pirates, who improve to 12-9 overall and 6-5 in the BIG EAST Conference.

Providence (9-13, 3-8 BIG EAST) returns to action on Sunday, February 16 at 2:00 p.m. versus Notre Dame in a BIG EAST Conference game. The contest is scheduled to be played at Alumni Hall's Mullaney Gymnasium on the campus of Providence College in Providence, R.I.
