MORGANTOWN, W.Va. -- The Providence College men's soccer team earned its first BIG EAST victory of the season with a 1-0 win against West Virginia on Wednesday, September 24 at Morgantown, W.Va.
Friar sophomore Eoin Lynch (Yarmouth, Maine) scored the only goal of the game when he converted on a penalty kick at 18:27 after a PC player was taken down in the box. For Lynch, it marked his first game-winning goal of the season.
Friar junior goalkeeper Jeff Newman (Northboro, Mass.) made six saves and registered his first shutout of the season.
With the win, Providence improved to 3-4 overall and 1-1 in BIG EAST play, while West Virginia fell to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in league action.
Providence College returns to action on Saturday, September 27 against Seton Hall at PC's Glay Field at 1:00 p.m.
